[[/underlined in red]]  Financial results [[underlined in red]] of preceding year very good. [[/underlined in red]] 
May 17. Straightening up belated correspondence. A stack of trash and bother. Went to see the [[underlined in red]] Ion. [[/underlined in red]] work far behind. Lewis scraping [[underlined in red]] Shortage of help everywhere. [[/underlined in red]] and labor [[underlined in red]] inefficient [[/underlined in red]] and [[underlined in red]] very expensive. [[/underlined in red]] Went to Columbia for lunch at Faculty Club. Then long conference with [[underlined in red]] Harvey [[/underlined in red]] who is to pass his [[strikethrough]] docto [[/strikethrough]] [[underlined in red]] ph.D. [[/underlined in red]] Thursday Missed faculty meeting on account of change of time

arrived in time in Fifth Avenue to participate at meeting of [[underlined in red]] Institute International Education [[/underlined in red]] (Carnegie Foundation) then went to University Club for supper. Pupin, Peet, Bridges [[underlined in red]] Hutchinson [[/underlined in red]] and [[underlined in red]] Ambrose [[/underlined in red]] Henry there.
May 18 [[strikethrough]] Dictated all morning [[/strikethrough]] Drove to [[underlined in red]] Columbia [[/underlined in red]] to interrogate at doctor's exam of [[underlined in red]] Straus. [[/underlined in red]] then lunch at Faculty Club then to see May at office of General [[underlined in red]] Bakelite Co. Shortage of formaldehyde [[/underlined in red]] and considerable [[underlined in red]] increase of price of the latter. [[/underlined in red]] No urgent questions. Feel very tired so went back [[strikethrough]] to [[/strikethrough]] Yonkers and went to bed at 8 P.M.
May 19. All day here. Irritated at endless stack of useless and uninteresting correspondence
