July 29 Lewis arrived here about 9:30 A.M. The engine refuses to start. I am fixing up things in the mean time. It is very hot. Then Seabury comes but engine does not start. [[red underline]] Seabury [[/red underline]] takes to splicing and [[strikethrough]] making knots. but engine does not start while Lewis is perspiring in trying to move that flywheel. Finally called in aid of Lloyd the mechanical expert here. After about half an hour he managed to get engines going and about 1P.M managed to get out [[red underline]] into the Hudson [[/red underline]] for furthering adjusting of carbruattor. Engine now works splendidly. Better than ever before All feel happy. Brought Lloyd back then set

out Northward. Strong SE breeze blowing. Dropped anchor on bright near inlet of [[red underline]] Croton River [[/red underline]] Just south of Croton Point Wind keeps us dancing. I find hinge of signal mast entirely ruptured. [[red underline]] Seabury [[/red underline]] who is very handy at this thing just lashes a stick to the mast to prevent it crushing on us. A simple supper then to bed early, all night rolling with wind abeam
July 31. Wind a little less strong. so we utilized this to reset the mast. Then went for a more comfortable anchorage on the North side of [[red underline]] Croton Point. [[/red underline]] An excellent place for bathing. Took a swim. sandy beach. Many campers there. Then left
