and anchored just below bridge in middle of River near other motor boats. Quiet pleasant anchorage but for noisy neighborhood of occasional freight trains. Current is moderate just enough to keep anchor slightly tight and there is a float nearby and a local R.R station (State Street. I went to town to buy some supplies while Lewis was to examine carburetor for cause of our trouble Ashore it was very hot [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] but cloudy. Had lunch at [[underlined in red]] Heublein's Restaurant, [[/underlined in red]] then when returning was caught in violent thunder and rain storm and went for shelter in a pastry shop. On coming aboard Lewis reported the trouble due to a water leak in gas-mixture intake pipe

We worked at this till about 8 P.M. until cause and remedy was found. Concluded to reconstruct intake pipe to morrow. Eveng there was a concert ashore inaugurating newly built public market near by.
Aug 17. Up at 5:30 AM classifying my charts. Then after tea finished our job at defective parts and Lewis went to town to have them mended and buy necessary supplies for putting carburetor in the middle of the six cylinders while I cut gaskets etc. for the job. It looks as if we should have to stay here at least until to morrow at noon time so I have sent a telegram to that effect to [[underlined in red]] General Bakelite [[/underlined in red]] Co. to wire me in case there is anything urgent there. Weather is [[strikethrough]] sunny [[/strikethrough]] cloudy but rather warm.
