Spent all afternoon and part of evening with Lewis in hot engine room to adjust the [[strikethrough]] cha [[/strikethrough]] new parts. while it rains and rains. Tired to bed. but satisfied of work accomplished
Aug 18. [[strikethrough]] Lewis now finds that [[/strikethrough]] Engine changes prove successful but Lewis now announces that Cylinder I draws water into the cylinder. So new gaskets has to be put in and removal of cylinder. [[red underline]] Alberts [[/red underline]] gasket proves a [[red underline]] clumsy defective job. [[/red underline]] No wonder we have had trouble with engine with water in intake and water in cylinder. After lunch the job is finished and everything seems ready.
Took in 100 gals. gasoline at float of [[red underline]] Hartford Yacht [[/red underline]] Club near by. good situation paid [[red underline]] $35.00 [[/red underline]] for it. Rather cloudy and threatening rain.

Left at 3:30 P.M with 112 gals of gasoline in our main tank Everything went well for just 20 minutes. when Lewis reports Cyl. No 1 very hot and had to stop. defective water insulation at 4:40 had cooled enough so we started up again but after 20 min. too hot again. at 5:40 we started again cutting out No 1 now and then whenever it became too hot, disconnecting the wires at7:25 P.M we anchored at [[red underline]] Middletown [[/red underline]] below Bridge having run the engine in all 2 h and 25 min. Lewis reports 106 gal so we have used only 6 gals in 2 h. and 25 min going downstream and with throttle rather cut down Evening spent trying to locate cause of trouble which is probably in an obstructed cock which was unfortunately is very inaccessible Dirty hot and grimy again
