After a lunch of boiled crabs went out with Evinrude and visited nearby coast guard station went over dunes to Ocean shore, wide lonely stretch very dissimilar of the crowded shore nearer New York.
Reminds somewhat the shore of North and South Carolina.
Sept. 7. Lifted anchor about 7 A.M. got out of channel and had to retrace steps then delay on account of loose rudder [[red underline]] A coast guard came aboard [[/red underline]] to give me directions about channel returned over [[red underline]] Belfort [[/red underline]] and anchored near jetty of [[red underline]] Patchogue [[/red underline]] for lunch.
I took dinghy and rowed to Patchogue, good straight

well protected channel between jetties. Strong wind blowing outside but good shelter inside at a kind of basin made from enlarged channel. Should give good anchorage fore and aft to boat of size of Ion.
Station far away from end of channel which is not pleasant and noisy surrounded with ship and coal yards. Station near by but town quite some distance. After short visit to town proceeded further.
Head winds and spray but excellent behavior of Ion and engine. Dropped anchor before [[red underline]] Bayshore Yacht Club [[/red underline]] about 5 P.M. not a living soul in that closed yacht club but convenient to come ashore with dinghy. To bed early
