Went early to [[red underline]] Ion [[/red underline]] to dismantle awning and preparing thereof etc, as well as mast.  Lewis, Jim and Mike with me.  Jim strained himself while handling a wrench and had to go home. Probably Lumbago
Evening dinner [[red underline]] Columbia University Club, of Association of American Universities. [[/red underline]] Sat at table with [[red underline]] Professor Seligman, Walker, Munroe [[/red underline]] etc. Speakers, [[red underline]] Butler, [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] Mapes, [[/red underline]] [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] Toastmaster. President

[[red underline]] Hadley [[/red underline]] of Yale, and new Presidents of Minnesota and California spoke all on subjects relating to methods of higher education and the purpose of the University.
Nov.19. Talked to [[red underline]] George Roll [[/red underline]] to whom position has been offered in plant of [[red underline]] Schmidtman. [[/red underline]] Offered him to serve as my [[red underline]] private assistant [[/red underline]] 
^[[or private engineer]] in affairs of General Bakelite Co and others, his compensation to be [[red underline]] $3000 a year [[/red underline]] to start with.
He accepted eagerly. Evening went to Chemists Club to meeting of NY Section [[red underline]] Am. Chemical [[/red underline]] Society. McKee presiding.
The main speaker of the evening was prevented to be present and Elwood Hendrich took his place and read a half humoristic, half scientific paper on "Smells".
