52 lable time. Supper at University Club. I have a bothersome cold in my head. [[black underline]] Dec 5. [[/black underline]] (Sunday). At home feel rather uncomfortable on account of my cold and [[red underline]] rather disgusted [[/red underline]] with tax-return computations business complications and [[red underline]] endless bothersome [[strikethrough]] complications [[/strikethrough]] details in matters for which I have little interest [[/red underline]] or curiosity Dec.6. [[red underline]] Dr. La Forge [[/red underline]] of the Bureau of Chemistry in Washington came here this afternoon. Had a talk in presence of George Roll and [[red underline]] Dr. Gothelf. [[/red underline]] He says that man in Philadelphia with an Italian name has assured him that he has made printing plates from Furfurol and phenol, which are superior [[end page]] [[start page]] 53 [[red underline]] to those made of [[/red underline]] of condensite and that they harden faster etc. That they can use 2 tons of [[red underline]] Furfurol [[/red underline]] a day if it is obtainable. He also told that by his process he can make Furfurol at a price of about 4 to 5 cents which I doubt very much. I felt very tired all day and at supper [[red underline]] felt so ill at ease that I went to bed. Slight fever, restless uncomfortable [[/red underline]] night. Nausea, headache, burning sensation. Dec 7. Kept [[red underline]] 24 hours without taking anything but water. [[/red underline]] Remained in bed all day. Read [[red underline]] Park Benjamin's book [[/red underline]] about Naval Academy. Towards evening felt somewhat better. Dec 8. Got up today but feel still much oppressed and generally uncomfortable
