Dec.6. [[red underline]] Dr. La Forge [[/red underline]] of the Bureau of Chemistry in Washington came here this afternoon. Had a talk in presence of George Roll and [[red underline]] Dr. Gothelf. [[/red underline]] He says that man in Philadelphia with an Italian name has assured him that he has made printing plates from Furfurol and phenol, which are superior

[[red underline]] to those made of [[/red underline]] of condensite and that they harden faster etc. That they can use 2 tons of [[red underline]] Furfurol [[/red underline]] a day if it is obtainable.  He also told that by his process he can make Furfurol at a price of about 4 to 5 cents which I doubt very much.  I felt very tired all day and at supper [[red underline]] felt so ill at ease that I went to bed. Slight fever, restless uncomfortable [[/red underline]] night. Nausea, headache, burning sensation.
Dec 7. Kept [[red underline]] 24 hours without taking anything but water. [[/red underline]] Remained in bed all day. Read [[red underline]] Park Benjamin's book [[/red underline]] about Naval Academy. Towards evening felt somewhat better.
Dec 8. Got up today but feel still much oppressed and generally uncomfortable
