This is [[red underline]] not the real [[/red underline]] season so the place is rather deserted and there is no bathing going on.
Jan 17. Went out early in a boat on a trip along the Island as far as "The Isthmus", where we were landed and walked across [[strikethrough]] when [[/strikethrough]] to a well sheltered little harbor, where was stranded an old Chinese Junk called the [[red underline]] Ning Po [[/red underline]] which was built [[strikethrough]] about [[/strikethrough]] more than a century ago, and has a long history as a [[red underline]] trader, pirate ship [[/red underline]] etc etc and found here her final resting place. 
She measures about 150 feet o.a by 30 feet beam and carries three masts, two of Chinese Ironwood. Timbers are very thick and staunch and everything built very substantially

The lines of the ship too are [[red underline]] graceful, [[/red underline]] and well planned. No wonder she was a fast [[strikethrough]] sailer [[/strikethrough]] sail. [[red underline]] "Camphor wood", a hard well preserved wood made her 10" thick ribs.[[/red underline]] Chinese lettering eyes on the split bow, and chinese printing on her elevated poop stern. 
When we came back it started to rain which soon developed half a gale, an unusual occurrence here I am told. These North Westerners occur only 3 or 4 times a year, and make the usually dry roads very wet and muddy.
Jan 18. Clouds are parting and by and by the sun comes out. But wet and occasional showers so concluded to leave on 3 P.M boat for Los Angeles.
Then took 8 P.M train [[red underline]] "The Lark" for Frisco. [[/red underline]] Train pretty well
