skipper was very friendly young man, whom I made happy by giving him an old rusty marine glass and [[strikethrough]] to [[/strikethrough]] [[overwritten]] whom [[/overwritten]] who listened with rapt attention when I showed  him the local hydrographic chart. His skip jack is 50'x 14'x 3', and has a centerboard. [[strikethrough]] His [[strikethrough]] Mast is very raked and about 10" diam. Topping lift and sheets are only 1/2 rope. His shrouds are 7/16 wire rope; forestay 1/2 wire rope 
Keelson is about 10"x 10" (or 12" x 12"?) He tells me his hull is 3" planking (or 2"?) His cabin is not fully 6', nearer 5'. He says it looks better so, but there is enough clearance of the boom for a full 6'

Left our anchorage 2:25 P.M for Manokin River where dropt anchor in 9 feet before Laws Thoroughfare in 9 feet of water. ^[[5:00 P.M]] a lonely spot but seem good shelter. Wenona is about 2 miles off and Lewis in dark went there for bread. Temperature is milder 60°F at 7 P.M.
Oct 17. Cloudy. Northern Breeze temp [[strikethrough]] 70 [[/striketrhough]] 60°F. Left 7:15 AM. and at 7:40 AM. stopped engine and ran under all three sails wind abaft making about 3 to 4 knots 
Dropped anchor before Crisfield. Very interesting sight to see Skipjacks, Bugeyes, and schooners backing up the crooked channel and then finding their way in the crooked anchorage. This seems to be a great oyster
