Dec 21. Afternoon went to Rockefeller Institute to get Moreu. Met Dr. Carrel for first time since several years. Then went with Moureu to Whitney Warren's. Then took him to Yonkers just long enough to give him a glass of champagne then back to New York.
Dec 22. Went to Columbia. There at McKee's office was a man showing various samples of a material very similar to bakelite 
Then to R&H office at 12 M. where the Redmanol and Condensite group had assembled to discuss salaries for head men.

I was stupefied at the exorbitant salaries they were proposing for themselves. I counteracted their effort by stating I wanted no salary at all, but if at the end of the year my work as president has been useful and provided earnings permitted it I might send in a bill for services but not as salary 
[[red underline]] Told them [[/red underline]] would accept Presidency of the merger company provided I had an assistant to help me and I proposed [[red underline]] George Roll [[/red underline]] Immediately there seemed to be uneasiness about my proposition. told them that 1st [[strikethrough]] I wanted [[/strikethrough]] I would withdraw my proposition if there was the slightest opposition or hesitation. That I did not want George Roll as an assistant-President by as an assistant to the President. That I wanted for this purpose no one
