George Roll is now engaged as "Assistant to the President of our new company. Had a short but direct talk to him telling him his future in his new position depends on himself, his work and his tact. Very cold day.
Jan. 2. Another cold day. This is a holiday. George Roll here arranging list of my patents etc Professor Grant (School of mines of Colorado) and his wife here for lunch.

Consulted Hays about loan of Jacobi see my letter to Jacobi 
Went to see May at his office told him of new conditions which had arisen and how "new arrangements in selling department will have to be made. That none of us thinks that present method and present department is satisfactory therefore it has been [[unanimously?]] decide to put this department and his office under new head. That he is still in the service of the company according to his contract and will remain so until end of 1922 [[strikethrough]] until he [[/strikethrough]] unless he desires to be released. That in mean time I suggest he should ask for a vacation of a month or so. This would give a chance to take over his office and reorganize it during his absence
