Karpen thinks it advisable 
Afterwards Hays called me up at the phone from his residence and told me Kirk Brown called it a "breach of trust" (!) if we decided not to appoint him as general manager, at the same time he is trying to sell his stock to the highest bidder and has practically offered it [[strikethrough]] at [[/strikethrough]] to Hays. Told to Hays I do not desire to bid for the stock on as far as Karpen has first call on it and I do not want to do anything which might be unfriendly to Karpen. Told to Hays that I consider that in as far as we have voted him $11000 salary we are bound to pay it to him but nothing morally or otherwise compels us to put a manager to a job where we fear he will do much damage instead of being of service.
