Early lunch then to Ion George takes Franklin car back to his house. Mileage - 2100.
Left mooring at 2 P.M. Then up river. At first some trouble with engine then all right Reached Philipse manor about 3:15 P.M. then Nina, Florence Roll, & George Roll came aboard Took them around TappenZee for a couple of hours then anchored near Club House Calm night.
Aug 14. Up early bending square sail & experimenting with brailing Hot weather no wind - Afternoon light ^[[S]] breeze opening up some [[houted?]] square sail and sailed up the river. Sail works well so thus new rudder. Dropped

Went out rowing all morning in dinghy exploring partly wooded and rocky shores. Got off at Verplanck's point [[strikethrough]] wh [[/strikethrough]] a much dilapidated place where met 2 old captains one a Southerner who started his yarns about fishing in the Columbia River and in Florida. an old timer. 
Every thing here looks like the "abandoned village" Careless slovenly and resigned. Went South 12:25. P.M.
