for lunch. Lift anchor 2:15 putting up sails, then fueled & used motor. Anchored in West Harbor. Fisher Island. Pretty anchorage beyond Goose Island. Quiet & pleasant.
Aug. 23. Left early in the morning beautiful, crisp weather. Went thru Fisher's Sound, then rounded Point Judith and before 5 AM dropped anchor before Newport
Excellent weather, favorable fresh breeze. Used sail almost exclusively during whole trip 
Made speeds varying from 3 1/2 to 6 knots. Breeze freshening gave us full opportunity to test out the possibilities of the new square rig. Altho sea was quite choppy, boat and sail behaved very

well. No sign of weakness and never a moment's anxiety Lewis got seasick for awhile but soon got over it and all the time stuck to his work 
Arrived in Newport tired but very satisfied of the days run Concluded to make a larger square sail. Ion can stand it. To bed early.
Aug. 24. Went ashore to order jam for new mizzen boom & buy provisions. Quaint pretty place. Shops run on a street (Thames' street?) parallel to the water. Bought charts & supplies. People generally more polite and cheerful than in New York. Went walking around all morning. Tried to get lunch at Casino but young attendant and policeman, took
