Oct. 17. Most of day at factory Rossi is away on his vacation Transparent department is quite busy. Still much hampered by R.R. embargo on account of empty drums not returning.
Peters repaired defective clutch lever.
Oct. 18. to factory. Afternoon went out sailing. half a gale Trouble in setting square sail which got torn but ran on staysail and mizzen. Strong Westerly. Back at anchor towards evening.

Oct 19. cold bright night. Temperature in my cabin 45◦ 
Went to factory. Rossi back. Long conference with him also with Laurence ^[[Byck]] and Shannon. Laurence Byck is trying to make laminated tubes with new varnish made by incorporating rosin to Liquid A No.10. this takes hold of free NaOH and furthermore allows expelling water by simple evaporation. Rosin seems to retard polymerization then he adds hexa + solvents to obtain hardening.
Told him to try adding furfural to retard hardening and to produce better adhesion similarly to what Redman has done Afterwards he took me to Embed Art Co. Decided progress in quality and variety of articles since last year
