saluting us. Towards evening anchored close to Northern side of [[strikethrough]] Break [[/strikethrough]] wooden dock of Riviere du Loup, other side of River to protect ourselves against W. breeze. Tried fishing. No luck. A polite boy in overalls and wearing spectacles whose name is Baily, speaks perfect English and gives me quite some information. Pier no longer used. Directs me to Mr. Madore (Mather?) who drives me to Fraserville  
Riviere du Loup winds thru marshes and ends at the small dock further up near town. Fraserville is on a hill. Many houses for sale or rent at low prices. Three or 4 abandoned small factories.

Furniture & shoe factories. Higher up a pulp mill.  [[strikethrough]] a number of [[/strikethrough]] 
^[[Some]] automobiles bearing Quebec label.  Excellent asphalted road in town. A few [[strikethrough]] stores [[/strikethrough]] small stores. In all a very sleepy place. Seems to have gone backward since steamers cease to stop at pier. A few small pretty cottages along water shore seem empty. A few indian shacks who sell [[strikethrough]] baskets [[/strikethrough]] fancy baskets. During the night at incoming flood a continuation of violent rolls which persisted till 2 P.M. Remainder of night quiet.
July 25. Left about 8. Calm cold and cloudy. Made Tadoussac at about 11 AM 
Splendid visibility. Tadoussac Hotel visible at large distance with its long red roof
