Evening [[underline]] A.L. Day, Fabri [[/underline]] and Baly joined me for supper Then we went to lecture of [[underline]] Rutherford on the Atom. [[/underline]] Nearly 2000 people in auditorium, but lecture failed to match the occasion
[[underline]] Sept 19. [[/underline]] Received a letter of [[underline]] Geo. Baekeland [[/underline]] telling me about discussion of [[underline]] Rossi and Redman in presence of Swan and Geo. B. [[/underline]] where they expressed [[underline]] dissatisfaction [[/underline]] about salaries of Schleussner, Karpen and myself

[[underline]] Arthur D. Little [[/underline]] gave an excellent address on "The Fourth Estate".
Later on listened to [[underline]] Swann, Zeeman [[/underline]] & Townsend of Oxford. The [[strikethrough]] latter [[/strikethrough]] first and third in their boresome presentation took all too much time so I ran out. Afternoon Honorary degrees. Evening excellent, well conducted banquet in big dining hall of Bellevue Hotel. Splendidly managed and terminated at about 11.P.M.
This morning went to see [[underline]] Dr. Owens [[/underline]] on his sickbed. Poor chap who did so much to make these meetings a success was entirely left out of everything. Not even a mention of his work was made. There seems to be some friction somewhere 
Sept 20. - Left with 9:00 AM train for New York. Fatigue
