Oct 22. More executive meetings, but had to go first to [[underline]] Judge Augustus Hand [[/underline]] Court where our case against Broome-street was presented. No defense, no representatives of opposite party.  [[underline]] Neave [[/underline]] handled all this in quick succession. Everything finished within 13 minutes. What a difference with my last case that lasted 23 days and years for a decision
[[underline]] Frank Dyer [[/underline]] was around. So was [[underline]] Dyer Smith.  Hurried back to executive meeting. [[/underline]] Feel entirely normal. Long session till 5 P.M. Supper at U.C then to Chemists Club meeting for [[underline]] Perkin Medal Award. [[/underline]] [[strikethrough]] Am. In [[/strikethrough]] Few of the committee were present so that American Institute of Chemical Engineers had everything their way.

and [[underline]] Hugh Moore [[/underline]] was elected over Richard B. Moore and Lawrence. I believe [[underline]] Ralph McKee and I were the only [[/underline]] who voted for R.B. Moore.  On the other hand [[underline]] David Wesson and Wagner [[/underline]] had been sent as proxies for President of A.I.C.E. etc. [[underline]] Olsen was as stupidly clumsy [[/underline]] as usual and [[underline]] very partial.  [[/underline]] Bogert, Nichols, Thomas, Kunz and Bacon, all who would have voted for R.B. Moore not there.
Oct. 23. Long talk with [[underline]] Karpen [[/underline]] on necessity of considering the morale of our staff as one of our principal assets, and this is one of the reasons why I protested about our large salaries. Showed him letter George B wrote me and in which he reported how Rossi and Redman had expressed
