Evening an informal dinner, only members of the Section present. [[underline]] Barnard and  Ellwood Haynes [[/underline]] there. The latter as well as [[underline]] Krause [[/underline]] said some very complimentary things. Good audience received my address very generously, altho' I was not at my best, feeling somewhat tired. - Yesterday I did better. Took midnight train for [[underline]] St Louis [[/underline]]
Nov. 9. (Sunday) Arrived [[underline]] St Louis [[/underline]] about 7 AM. Matthews there and an invitation of [[underline]] Mallincrodt [[/underline]] for dinner. 
Good room at Chase Hotel. Will try to rest if they do not make it difficult with side invitations.
Went to [[underline]] Mallincrodt [[/underline]] (Senior's) house near by. He came

to fetch me at hotel. A private residence section with wide private roads. Tastefully built houses. [[underline]] E. Mallinerodt Jr [[/underline]] is away and wrote a letter of regrets. His father's house nearby also tastefully built and tastefully furnished. Two other guests there with their wives. One a Mr. Davis is a Princeton man and knows the Scribners. [[underline]] Mrs. Mallinorodt Jr [[/underline]] there. Interesting conversation. Afterwards I went walking in the nearby Park until sunset. Few walkers mostly automobiles. Good rest.
[[underline]] Nov 10.. [[/underline]] At noon little lunch party at [[underline]] University Club. [[/underline]] About 6 present amongst them 2 men of [[underline]] Mallincrodts and  Dr. Shafer [[/underline]] professor of Chemistry of Medical School
