[[/underline]] [[strikethrough]] spoiled by a [[/strkethrough]] in beautiful spacious dining room but much spoiled by a horrid [[underline]] Jazz band [[/underline]] At lecture met Professor [[underline]] Walker [[/underline]] formerly of Mass. Institute Technology. Well filled warm and very appreciative audience. [[underline]] I felt at my best [[/underline]] and my little talk was very well received. In night train at 11.AM. for [[underline]] Iowa City. [[/underline]] Drizzling rain and chilly. [[end page]] [[start page]] 85 Nov 13. Our train arrives too late at [[underline]] Des Moines Iowa [[/underline]] so missed connection so had to wait three hours in this cheerless dark city and drizzling rain after breakfeast, to catch next train at 11 A.M. Arrived Iowa City about 2 P.M [[underline]] Dr. Bartow and Popoff, [[/underline]] a Bulgarian at station with motor car drove us to Jefferson Hotel, fairly good. Has bathroom. Afterwards drove around to see University buildings - quite impressive specially new chemical building just built under direction of [[underline]] Bartow, [[/underline]] very well planned and very comprehensive. Used cement + sand brick molded on the spot, cheaper and better than other brick requires no finish inside
