Is biochemist for one of the packing companies. makes good impression. Drove all to [[underline]] Drake Hotel [[/underline]] where had breakfeast. Then went to office of [[underline]] Bakelite [[/underline]] Long talk with [[underline]] Karpen [[/underline]] on present conditions. Then informal and very pleasant lunch at City Club amongst members of [[underline]] Chicago Section [[/underline]] Cheerful spirit, made a very short address then went to rest at hotel. Evening informal dinner at City Club. Very numerous attendance. Karpen and all our [[underline]] chemists of Bakelite [[/underline]] Very numerous audience. Large room entirely filled also balcony and 2 rows standing. Was well rested and

at my best and my lecture was unusually well received and felt very happy to see that I had struck a subject of interest. These audiences which are not exclusively composed of teachers and students respond much more warmly and seem to follow the subject with more interest. A short reception after the lecture [[strikethrough]] then packed bag [[/strikethrough]] [[underline]] Blount [[/underline]] returned to New York and [[underline]] Shuey [[/underline]] is replacing him in second part of my tour
