A. Karpen [[\underline]] had to leave by 2 P.M train for urgent business in Chicago. Gordon Brown was away on business. I served Jamaica Planters [[end page]] [[start page]] 135 Punch, home made wine and Cherry wine, strengthened with a little cherry-brandy. Speeches by all except Geo Roll, Quigley and Chamberlin. A very pleasant and cheerful affair. Dec. 20. I passed on all the minor [[underline]] bonus and salaries [[\underline]] as [[underline]] arranged yesterday by a committee composed of Geo B., Geo Roll, Rossi [[\underline]] and [[underline]] Redman. [[\underline]] Eveng supper at University Club with [[underline]] Pupin, Peet, Bridges, Holden, [[\underline]] and [[underline]] Parsons. [[\underline]] I furnishing the wine and providing each one with a large [[underline]] bakelite pearl bead [[\underline]] to ofset Pupin's gigantic neck tie pearl. Afterward listened to lecture on Shakespeare at Century Club. Baldwin there. Very cold.
