[[underline]] April 20. [[/underline]] Slept in my new cabin last night, good ventilation thru wind scoop on P.S. Weather and temp. about the same and refreshing light breeze. I find that steamer [[underline]] "Rumphius" [[/underline]] and its sister ship are very good passenger steamers and that Northcliffe lauded their comfort and management. No wonder I was the only passenger

paying on the "Van Swoll" 
Very light wind, water looks glassy but motion of steamer makes pleasant breeze. Passed 2 [[strikethrough]] Duch [[/strikethrough]] small steam freighters flying Dutch flag 
I have [[underline]] smelt onions ever since we left. [[/underline]] Now I find [[underline]] this boat [[/underline]] has taken over the [[underline]] whole cargo of onions [[/underline]] of the "Ashdang" and they are to be unloaded in [[underline]] Batavia! [[/underline]] Cannot get rid of them. Dropt anchor before the breakwater at about 10 P.M. A very sultry night and breeze blanketed by freight housing on boat. As there is no fan in my cabin there is not a breath of air. So I slept as well as I could on 2 chairs on deck as [[strikethrough]] f [[/strikethrough]] near as possible to S. B quarter so as to catch once in awhile a little of the faint breeze. [[underline]] Very [[/underline]] little sleep.
