There is a [[underline]] clean porcelan basin [[/underline]] - running water in bed room. Buildings cement [[underline]] immaculately clean, [[/underline]] [[strikethrough]] at [[/strikethrough]] hard glossy tile floor - [[underline]] no rugs [[/underline]] Substantial, [[underline]] simple teak wood & rattan seat furniture made here. [[/underline]] Electric lights but [[underline]] no fans [[/underline]] except on extra payment of 1/2 ƒ a day. But they are not strictly necessary as [[underline]] nights are not hot. [[/underline]] In my bed buried behind pillow there is a kind of brush made from a bunch of palm leave stems, tied together and with which [[underline]] to chase any stray insects or mosquitoes [[/underline]] which may be in or around the bed. I saw few if any insects even at night when the lights were on.

[[underline]] Help seems to be cheap [[/underline]] and abundant and these [[underline]] cheerful Malays [[/underline]] seem to like their job even if they are not quick in their motions. They are all barefooted and wear a variety of headgear which looks like a misfit turban or what results if one tries to make a turban from too small a handkerchief and has to tie the latter with knots. Design of every turban as well as colors seems to be left to individual taste
