beautiful weather. Have had no rain for several weeks. Every day sunny and pleasant. Visit of Mr. & Mrs. [[underline]] Spicer-Simson [[/underline]] and friends.
March 8. Telegram [[underline]] bad news again about Rossi, also ^[[long]] letter from Germans giving accounts of what is due me, etc. 
Celine [[/underline]] wires she is trying to get accommodation at Long Key for all the ladyfolks and children of the family. Seems disgusted with weather in New York
March. 9. Started [[underline]] new run on raisins 
^[[wine]] in 5 gal. jar. [[/underline]] 10 packages (15 oz each) of "Sunmaid" seedless raisins 6 lbs - granulated sugar 28 pints of lukewarm water added  [[strikethrough]] some [[/strikethrough]] ^[[a few]] raisins of former run to start sooner. Mixed at 10 AM ^[[was]] fermenting at 3 P.M

and which has had exactly 10 days run. I took all the raisins which had already been used in a former run and after draining the liquid added 14 pints of water + 6 lbs granulated sugar, so as to see whether I could not get clearer and stronger. This time removed the [[strikethrough]] seve [[/strikethrough]] spent raisins and bottled them for galley. 
A [[underline]] former run Feb 17, [[/underline]] took 5 packages (15oz) "Sunmaid" raisins 2 lbs. gran. sugar 2½ lbs. beet sugar syrup, fermented well and after [[underline]] ten days was withdrawn. [[/underline]] Liquid somewhat darker than usually.

All these experiments settle well in about 10 days if made with uncrushed seedless raisins.

Deck was painted yesterday and today is varnished. NE blowing but sunny and quick drying. Evening received telegram [[underline]] bad news announcing Rossi and Karpen worse. [[/underline]] Wired back immediately to George
