[[underline]] Aug 27. Townsend [[/underline]] reported back from [[underline]] Europe. Ill in bed. Had to be transported on stretcher [[strikethrough]] from [[/strikethrough]] to boat to return after 2 weeks I predicted a breakdown! [[/underline]] from this strenuous trip foolishly planned for a "vacation" to a [[underline]] man who was entirely played out before he left [[/underline]] and who [[underline]] needed a quiet vacation, fishing or reading [[/underline]] somewhere out of his usual occupations. [[underline]] Berliss [[/underline]] came back from his vacation Explained to him my present problems. Everybody is

[[underline]] Aug 28 [[/underline]] Karpen has returned [[underline] ]from his vacation in Europe. [[/underline]] Long talk about his interviews in [[underline]] England. [[/underline]] Altho' I agree on most of his opinion I [[underline]] disagree [[/underline]] with his [[underline]] recommendations [[/underline]] of accepting [[underline]] their latest proposal. [[/underline]] After explaining my reasons [[underline]] he agrees with me. Schleussner [[/underline]] away. 
[[underline]] Feel very tired.[[/underline]] Afternoon went to [[underline]] New Rochelle [[/underline]] Yacht Club - Yacht Races. Beautiful weather.  Remained for supper.
Aug 29. (Sunday). Here all day. [[underline]] Twenty-one European Chemists have arrived per SS. De Grasse, [[/underline]] and tomorrow [[underline]] shall have to receive them [[/underline]]
