158 years ago I was about to let him have some money for a research fellowship under him at Yale. But on discussing the matter with [[underline]] Redman [[/underline]] I found [[underline]] Hibbert was quarreling with other men of the department of Chemistry hence [[/underline]] I [[strikethrough]] withd [[/strikethrough]] changed my intentions. Very probably [[underline]] Hibbert was superficial enough [[/underline]] to imagine without information that this little research fellowship was to represent [[underline]] all [[/underline]] the research work undertaken by our company. [[underline]] After my talk he apologized [[/underline]] and promised to rectify his statements in future. Evening Banquet. [[underline]] Nothing but water served [[/underline]] but things went very well. Cheerful yet dignified. ^[[Dr.]] [[underline]] Wiley [[/underline]] [[end page]] [[start page]] 159 and [[underline]] Munroe [[/underline]] spoke for oldest members. [[underline]] Norris [[/underline]] this morning had made a long address of predictions at to the future of Chemistry. An address rather too long and with many repetitions and which lost its force by rather [[strikethrough]] has ant [[/strikethough]] [[underline]] qualitative [[/underline]] statements and rather visionary predictions chosen on account of their sensational effect. [[underline]] Sept. 8 [[/underline]] Still hot and sultry. Sectional meetings. [[underline]] Sept 9. [[/underline]] Another hot and sultry day. [[underline]] New University Museum [[/underline]] strikingly interesting. Specimens relatively few but excellently presented, in well lighted halls. [[underline]] Sept 10 [[/underline]] Excursion on [[underline]] Delaware River. [[/underline]] Cool and bright weather. Restful event. Saw the [[underline]] Amoy-Junk [[/underline]]
