[[\underlined]]  A big sailor - Captain Scott came to see me for the job on the ION.  Licensed "All Oceans" all vessels.  Wants $200 a month and expenses.  Shall wait until I hear from the others.  Evening went to [[underlined]] Chemists Club dinner as guest of Dr. Wagner, President Robert Davis, newspaper man [[\underlined]] gave a silly and [[underlined]] [[?unspecial]] [[\underlined]] talk on his trip around the

world, and gave [[underlined]] much ignorant misinformation about Java and other countries. [[\underlined]]  This is his occupation!
Feb 3.  Another very very busy day.  [[underlined]] Schleussner [[\underlined]] absent at meetings.

[[underlined]] Feb. 5. [[\underlined]]  Second interview with Capt. Scott.  Munroe and Tracey both recommend several men in Miami.  Received first letter from [[underlined]] Celine [[\underlined]] from [[underlined]] Madera. [[\underlined]]  She seems to like her trip and the company.  Evening went to monthly supper of [[underlined]] Century Club. [[\underlined]]  153 members present.  Root made a cheerful speech.
[[underlined]] Feb. 6 Sunday [[\underlined]]  All day at home.  Time consumed with income tax returns for N.Y State.  Opening letters accumulated and unpaid bills etc.  Feel very irritated at first that Celine should have donated a chair to [[underlined]] Town meeting house [[\underlined]]
