[[underlined]]Nov 17.  Catlow[[\underlined]] who knows his chemistry, put a bronze wire and new tube in the 'chocker'.  Engine started running at once after we had opened gasoline cock, which by some mistake was overlooked at first.  Little engine has never had its valves ground since acquisition in 1924, and works perfectly.  Am astonished also at the fact that there is very little rusting or deterioration on the boat, altho' she has been out of commission for almost two years. - No cockroaches!  Distribution of poison everywhere by Pattison prevent this

Strong currant in the Miami River on account of high water in Everglades.  As it was too late in afternoon concluded to tee up and leave tomorrow early.
[[underlined]]Nov 18[[\underlined]] (Sunday)  Left [[underlined]]Tracey's[[\underlined]] dock, 9.00 arrived at the Anchorage Basin at 10.30 AM going slowly.  Engine worked perfectly.  Cheerful sight to see the old ION in our basis.  A man Shepherd, who has a motorboat accompanied us with Catlow and Curtis.  Also took along a colored man Ingram to observe him whether he is qualified as a boatman.  Padlocked the gate so as not to be disturbed by visitors.  Wrote several letters.
Nov. 19.  Everybody busy at the boat, Curtis included but William already to land work
