[[red underlined]] His little children manifest more curiosity in books and learning than their father does. [[/red underlined]]
I feel terribly upset by all this, went home very agitated and tired.  Hardly slept all night This is a mockery! The [[red underlined]] only trouble with any body on our staff is always George Roll. [[/red underlined]] If it is not with me it is with others. He lacks [[red underlined]] entirely the sense of humor, [[/red underlined]] hence [[strikeout]] nev [[/strikeout]] is the [[red underlined]] only man in the whole [[strikethrough]] out [[/strikethrough]] outfit who never smiles. [[underlined]] Dec. 18. [[/underlined]] Hays here; told him my difficulties with George.  [[red underlined]] Hays offers [[/red underlined]] me to [[red underlined]] see him. [[/red underlined]] so he went to lunch with him.

He came back telling me George Rolls arguments were a terrible bore, but that he seems meek and disposed to come to reason and feels ready to do what I say. So that I shall not have to scratch his name from the ticket and appoint Swan to his place. I had offered George Roll to let the selection of Treasurer be in the hands of the other directors.  George Baekeland and myself retiring and abstaining from voting and let the others decide how they feel about Geo Roll he not being present. [[red underlined]] I am absolutely sure they all will vote against him without being told a word to direct them, if the ballot is made secret. [[/red underlined]] - But Hays tells me this cannot be done, [[red underlined]] Karpen being absent and he and George Roll, myself, and Geo B [[/red underlined]]
