[[underlined]] June 6. [[\underlined]] Tax examiner [[underlined in red]] Clausen [[\underlined in red]] here to recalculate my returns for 1927, and approves my claims. [[strikethrough]] A very [[/strikethrough]] This man makes a very good impression. Evening. Monthly supper at Century Club. Well attended cheerful spirit; met many of my old friends.

Prefer taking my dinner restfully at home.  Afternoon joined the same party at George Baekeland's house.  Drove to Larchmont then back with Celine.

[[underlined in red]] Conditions in England excellent; [[\underlined in red]] good and better than formerly in Germany. [[underlined in red]] Unsettled [[\underlined in red]] in [[underlined in red]] Italy [[\underlined in red]] and [[underlined in red]] unfavorable in France.
