General Squier told me [[/red underline]] yesterday that [[red underline]] my name had been presented for membership in the National Academy of [[/red underline]] Sciences. - Told him my name had been proposed a first time during the war period but [[red underline]] that some German born members had used their influence against my [[/red underline]][[strikethrough]] app [[/strikethrough]] election.
[[underline]] Dec. 19. [[/underline]] All day at office preparing for my departure for Florida next week
[[underline]] Dec. 20 [[/underline]]. Luncheon of remaining 2 stone crabs with Prof. [[red underline]] Barnouw [[/red underline]] at [[strikethrough]] Colum [[/strikethrough]] University Club. [[red underline]] Van Sinderen, Alfred Whitney joined us. Pupin [[/red underline]] at the club recovered but still same weakness of legs, no improvement in the latter but is cheerful

[[underline]] Dec 21 [[/underline]] 1930 (Sunday). Began packing for Florida.
[[underline]] Dec.22 [[/underline]] At office all day squaring up things
Dec.23 - [[strikethrough]] Ditto [[/strikethrough]] & 24 ditto. Paid [[red underline]] George B. his share for the year. [[/red underline]]
[[underline]] Dec.25 [[/underline]] Xmas. Got up early packed my trunks for leaving tonight. [[red underline]] Then at 11 came [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] all the grand children and then parents for the Xmas tree. [[/red underline]] So we had the [[red underline]] whole Baekeland clan together. George Roll looked cheerful which pleases me much [[/red underline]] Did not question him about his work We all had dinner together on the long table. Little Fred [[red underline]] Baekeland left with his nurse before. [[/red underline]] The [[red underline]] grand children were wonderfully well behaved [[/red underline]] at table altho' twinkling with wit and good humor and ... good appetite. [[red underline]] Each one of the grandchildren received a nice valise for travelling [[/red underline]] which was a great joy for them.
