[[underline]] May 7 [[underline]] I left early in station wagon on [[underlined in red]] Tamiami Trail [[/underlined in red]] for [[underlined in red]] Naples [[/underlined in red]] Fla. with Dr. [[underlined in red]]]] Barbour [[/underlined in red]] Dr. [[underlined in red]] Cook [[/underlined in red]] and two young assistants to find  [[underlined in red]] near Naples [[/underlined in red]] a special [[underlined in red]] lizzard [[/underlined in red]] supposed to exist there One of the assistants whose name is Findlay drove. The car of the Dept of Agriculture was too small to take all of us and the bulky Dr. Barbour hence the use of [[underlined in red]] our station wagon [[/underlined in red]] which gave ample room. All went well. - [[underlined in red]] Wild birds [[/underlined in red]] orchids, wild turkeys, hawk, eagles, [[underlined in red]] alligators [[/underlined in red]] quantity of [[underlined in red]] white herons, Egret herons, Blue herons [[/underlined in red]]. In the water along the road an abundance of [[underlined in red]] gar-fish [[/underlined]] which is the last representative of

the paleontologically represented [[underlined in red]] ganoids [[/underlined in red]] - Trees full of [[underlined in red]] Bromelias [[/underlined in red]] and [[underlined in red]] orchids [[/underlined in red]] [[underlined in red]] Seminole Indians [[/underlined in red]] in their huts and [[underlined in red]] pirogues. [[/underlined in red]] Then [[underlined in red]] finally Naples [[/underlined in red]] and a wooden shack restaurant if the name is not too grandiose. But all very very enjoyable and excellent weather as well as our spirits. Then the trip homewards when [[underlined in red]] towards evening [[/underlined in red]] one of [[underlined in red]] our rear tires burst [[/underlined in red]] far from everywhere. Put in a new tire and after a few miles this one too burst about [[underlined in red]] 70 miles from any place where we [[/underlined in red]] could get tires. Evening approaching fast and in this half submerged land feared onslaught of [[underlined in red]] mosquitoes [[/underlined in red]] on our unfortunate bodies. Fortunately an automobile arrived going North. Dr.  [[underlined in red]] Barbour [[/underlined in red]] took it
