Explained him threatening present condition of B.C. our finances, sales, expenses etc. and comparison with former years This being by far the worst year we ever had and [[red underline]] how our liquid surplus was gradually [[/red underline]] diminishing, while our general expenses in every department had been decreasing. This was specially the case in Research, and means must be provided to master the situation by a steering and budget committee. [[red underline]] Redman being ill and easily getting into irritation [[/red underline]] was difficult to bring to see the situation

as it is. - Over optimism and a certain stubbornness of attitude. A committee of steering and budget will be officially appointed by me - [[red underline]] after Dr. R. returns [[[/red underline]] from his vacation. In the mean time I shall gather all necessary information for being able to submit a program to that committee [[red underline]] after first submitting it to Redman for approval [[/red underline]] and discussion. - [[red underline]] Sanford Brown [[/red underline]] came back of Chicago. - Tells me he had conversation [[red underline]] with A.K [[/red underline]] on subject of salaries and bonus and [[red underline]] A.K thinks that Browns ^[[official]] salary should be adjusted [[/red underline]] and that his remuneration should not be made so dependent on variable bonus. [[red underline]] - Told him this was precisely what I contemplated to propose [[/red underline]] and
