54 [[underline]] Sept 8 [[/underline]] All day office. [[underline]] Sept 9. [[/underline]] Ditto sultry [[underline]] Sept 10. [[/underline]] Tried to telegraph or telephone [[red underline]] to Nielsen, [[/red underline]] who is now on vacation to find out who gave him permission to file the [[red underline]] Turkington - Butler [[/red underline]] patents in U.S and foreign countries. But no-one can locate him. - Long talk with Major about necessity of introducing economies in office. - Then long talk with Geo B to show him the [[red underline]] practical difficulties [[/red underline]] in an arrangement with [[red underline]] Rogers Paper Co which may lead to endless unforeseen difficulties. [[/red underline]] - Very hot weather [[underline]] Sept 11. [[/underline]] At office. Hotter than yesterday 95° recorded, but 103° in the shade in Central park. [[red underline]] Long talk with Shrimpe this afternoon. Rossi finally carried out my request since June to have a talk with Shrimpe, so as to quieten the [[/red underline]] latters perplexed situation [[red underline]] not knowing [[/red underline]] what [[red underline]] Rossi intended to do [[/red underline]] with him. Last week after conferring with Sandford Brown, Swan [[end page]] [[start page]] 55 George B then with Rossi [[red underline]] I proposed Shrimpe to take the management of Pantone. [[/red underline]] At present there is no head and it is most impossible for Swan to manage Pantone in Bloomfield from this office. - We need a man who is acquainted with the run of our company - no outsider. [[red underline]] Shrimpe possesses general technical knowledge [[/red underline]] to manage the whole thing, and will feel happier in a new division than if he [[strikethrough]] keeps [[/strikethrough]] stays under Rossi [[red underline]] and the others [[/red underline]] who [[red underline]] belittle Shrimpe [[/red underline]] and are always fault finding Told [[red underline]] Shrimpe [[/red underline]] ^[[frankly]] about our ^[[present]] business condition and that I believe he would feel happier in this new position. Told him [[red underline]] to go [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] now [[/red underline]] and then to [[red underline]] Bloomfield to get [[/red underline]] acquainted with the situation before taking a decision. [[underline]] Sept 12. [[/underline]] Stayed in Yonkers all day. Weather not so hot and fair.
