Then [[underlined in red]] afterwards [[strikethrough]] occure [[/strikethrough]] Hays committed a very serious blunder, unexpected [[/underlined in red]] for a man who always displays tact and method but who [[strikethrough]] now [[/strikethrough]] then was in an unusual mental overwrought state where his good judgement failed him.
Hays, after George had already signed the contract, telephoned to the concern that we would sign the contract [[underlined in red]] but that we expected George Roll to get a job there. [[/underlined in red]] George Baekeland would not have known anything of all this if not of the men of that concern had not told him of the incident. Immediately on hearing this [[underlined in red]] George Baekeland [[/underlined in red]] wrote a letter to the head of the concern, [[underlined in red]] contradicting [[/underlined in red]] what Hays had said and protesting against any such unwarranted action and telling that under the circumstances he desired that George Roll should not get a job.. The result was that George Roll who otherwise would have been appointed on his own merits, [[strikethrough]] did [[/strikethrough]] was side tracked [[underlined in red]] all thru that blunder. [[/underlined in red]] A few days ago he went to work but George tells me he works without compensation.
I feel very much disgusted of the repetition of [[underlined in red]] sudden actions [[/underlined in red]] of [[underlined in red]] George [[/underlined in red]] or [[underlined in red]] other vice-presidents [[/underlined in red]] or operating committee, proceeding and involving the corporation in important matters [[underlined in red]] without [[/underlined in red]]

[[underlined in red]] consulting me [[/underlined in red]] or givig me [[underlined in red]] even a chance for approval, [[/underlined in red]] under circumstances where I am easily available by phone or telegraph any time of day or night The most striking example of this was that [[underlined in red]] regrettable incidence [[/underlined in red]] of the summer of [[underlined in red]] 1930 where he [[/underlined in red]] signed an agreement [[underlined in red]] to Surcouf [[/underlined in red]] compromising the corporation without even giving me a chance to look at it [[underlined in red]] If our company goes to pot, none of the directors but I will be blamed.. [[/underlined in red]] I challenge them to cite me a single instance where I have done anything or obligating the corporation [[underlined in red]] without consulting [[/underlined in red]] the other available directors and mostly much time in advance. I feel [[underlined in red]] very disgusted. - It if were not for George himself I would get out of these responsibilities [[/underlined in red]] If I leave Bakelite I foresee what will happen. - George will soon be dislodged and substituted by a man like Sanford Brown who has less scruples and appeals more to the "hard boiled" business man or banker who nourishes a silent dislike against engineers, chemists or any people who have a better
