Seems barren cliff. But there is an entrance and harbor on the other side. The light sunny haze gives the steep cliff a pinkish tint. Then a short with [[strikethrough]] win [[/strikethrough]] red roofed houses, and a wind mill. We are now in the Elbe and Cuxhaven is in sight. Among the men on the dock I notice one carrying a large bakelite trade mark with the [[image: symbol of a "B" over an infinity sign]].

What difference with New York. - people taking a cup of coffee or tea or a big glass of lager in quiet and pretty little [[strikethrough]] gar [[/strikethrough]] beer gardens, listening to good string music and observing the passers-by near the Alster [[strikethrough]] which [[/strikethrough]] canals which add to the cheerfulness and reminds one of Venice.

[[strikethrough]] Arrive [[/strikethrough]] Train brought us to Berlin about 11 P.M where [[red underline]] Sachs [[red underline]] was waiting for us and escorted me to the Adlon hotel "spick and span" as ever. I had ordered a simple but quiet room with bath and such one had been assigned to me. Price 18 Mks + 10% for service. At present price of the mark this corresponds about to $5.60, for room & bath.

Excellent rest. Depressed business has made the [[red underline]] Adlon [[/red underline]] a less lively place than it used to be in 1913 when I was there last. There are only a few guests. The restaurant which used to be full at every meal now has scarcely a couple of dozen guests. Otherwise the hotel is just as well kept and run as formerly. In fact better because they only have retained the best of their personel. - Went to offices of [[red underline]] Bakelite Gesellschaft, at 32 Lutzowstrasse. [[/red underline]] Had a long talk with Weger and Sachs about pending business matters. Then Sachs
