[[left margin in red]] Why I objected to their visit [[/left margin in red]]
were then [[red underline]] in the midst of very serious work which required all and exclusively our undivided [[/red underline]] attention, and that I did not wish to have a quarrel renewed with a turbulent Surcouf, and that I then and there [[red underline]] had decided to have no further relations with Surcouf [[/red underline]] & La Bakelite except thru Bakelite Gesellschaft as was later expressed in the form of contract which I now submitted for ratification between Berlin and New York. Leaving Berlin & Paris to thresh out all resulting incidents between themselves.
[[underline]] May 30. [[/underline]] Provisional [[red underline]] meeting of the Directors of Bakelite Gesellschaft [[/red underline]] in preparation for official annual Meeting tomorrow. Dr. [[red underline]] Fabian [[/red underline]] (who speaks no English) and is now at the [[red underline]] head of Rütgers [[/red underline]] was present. He is a tall, strongly built German who [[strikethrough]] shows [[/strikethrough]] bears some dueling wounds on his [[strikethrough]] cheek [[/strikethrough]] cheek. - Quiet & pleasant behavior - Says little. - Dr. [[red underline]] Nöbe [[/red underline]] of former years greets me warmly. Stauss, Sachs & Weger. Different items were discussed, principally question of the [[red underline]] 200000 Mark pension fund for Weger & Sachs. [[/red underline]] I remarked

that if in times of depression the annual instalment therefore was withdrawn it would [[red underline]] not be fair to Bakelite Corporation [[/red underline]] if we would have to supply whatever was missing of the [[red underline]] $25000 request for the preferred 7% [[/red underline]] interest of the share-holders under penalty of losing our voting rights. - It was explained that this objection had already been taken care of by withdrawing from the abundant surplus reserve fund at once 200,000 Marks so that there would be no conflict with future earnings. This and other similar questions I raised were satisfactorily answered. Afterwards we all walked to [[red underline]] "Siechen Brauhaus" [[/red underline]] [[where?]] we had a simple very pleasant meal. - Then occurred a great surprise
When I opened the door another man just came out and we [[strikethrough]] bunte [[/strikethrough]] bumpted against each other exclaiming both: "Bitte verzeichen Sie!" in German to be changed to hearty laughter when I recognised dear [[strikethrough]] old [[/strikethrough]] [[red underline]] Dr. Woodbridge, [[/red underline]] our Dean of Faculty of Science and Philosophy at Columbia, who was giving the Roosevelt Lecture Course at Berlin University on the History of Philosophy!
Dr. [[red underline]] Stauss came back from his [[strikethrough]] kerr [[/strikethrough]] cure, [[/red underline]] in suffering from [[red underline]] arthritis [[/red underline]] in one leg which keeps him limping and may take many months to heal. - But he is very cheerful as usually
