16000$ house which he cannot sell that he expected to have with us a life-position. That he is paid less than others who occupy less important positions. I told him he was in error that he was one of our highest paid men and demonstrably higher than some of our men whose responsibilities and importance of work was higher than his etc. He was rather bitter and gave a recital of his work and of the lack of cooperation etc. I asked him to write me a letter setting forth his statements so that I might submit it for discussion. to which he answered: What's the use of writing you a letter when you will already have decided". I rebuked him for this statement which [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] indirectly was an accusation of lack of sincerity on my part, and I reminded him rather sharply so he cooled down. - the trouble with Taylor is that he always has prodded Redman for higher and higher salaries and that the latter as in other cases did not resist. Told him that as soon as I received his letter would resubmit the matter to Operating Committee. - All this is intensely discourageable to me and a painful task to perform. Sanford Brown and the others who do the kicking and decide upon such unpleasant work leave the execution thereof to my son or to myself

him, then George accompanied him to see the [[underlined in red]] Harsberger [[/underlined in red]] exhibit. The following morning, (Tuesday) he reported favorably.
Long talk with Rossi about Taylor Then came in [[underlined in red]] Mory [[/underlined in red]] who [[/underlined in red]] has been notified that his services with our company will cease next October 1. [[strikethrough]] He go [[/strikethrough]] I asked him what he was doing at present. Said Redman had asked him to be the [[underlined in red]] "Ghost writer" [[/underline in red]] of a book on the chemical industries of America which the latter had accepted to write. - But that he had spent thus far all his time in collecting the necessary data and had come to the realisation that the task was too big and intends to give it up. - He [[underlined in red]] was very frank [[/underlined in red]] and outspoken. - Told that he was well aware he [[underlined in red]] had never earned his salary. [[/underlined in red]] - Altho' he tried to find work to warrant it. - That he really was a [[underlined in red]] "glorified secretary to Dr. Redman" [[/underlined in red]] attending to odds and ends. Now and then writing an article or arranging a [[underlined in red]] speech for Dr. Redman [[/underlined in red]] etc. That he never had been assigned to a job where he really could do justice to his salary, that whatever we decided to do with him he would feel that he had been treated right etc.
He told me for the first time that every since he joined us he had been at a great physical disadvantage, suffering from a [[underlined in red]] fistula. [[/underlined in red]] That he had postponed for many years an operation which had only lately been performed. That while in the past his ailment had a depressing influence he now felt like an entirely new man. - That he knew he was a "slow" man, a slow writer etc. That he took more time for doing anything than ordinary men assigned to the same task. But

'underlined in red' is the same as 'red underline' Why edit just to change this, instructions not clear which might be more appropriate except they do say the word 'underlined' had a 'd' and not 'underline' without the last 'd' Seems a waste of time unless someone has clarification as to which is more appropriate from Institute
