[[red underlined]] barely escaped being trapped [[/red underlined]] by [[red underline]d] Van Vredenburgh [[/red underlined]] and his [[?]] and that we are [[red underlined]] still sobering up [[/red underlined]] from our deal [[red underlined]] with Trist [[/red underlined]]
[[underlined]] Aug 12 [[/underlined]] Long talk with Bender and Nielsen this morning about pending patents applications and about past mistakes in [[strikethrough]] that [[/strikethrough]] Bloomfield etc
George received letter from [[red underline]] Redman [[/red underlined]] that he has [[red underlined]] concluded not to go to Denver [[/red underlined]] meeting on advice of his physician. - Feel much relieved that he finally is willing to follow advice of his physicians. Says he has had 6 teeth extracted, and feels better but tires easily later in the day.
Long talk with Sanford Brown and [[red underlined]] Hanson [[/red underlined]]. The latter has been quite a problem in raising trouble [[strikethrough]] and I tried to [[/strikethrough]] these men [[red underlined]] do not [[/red underlined]] imagine [[red underlined]] the serious problems [[/red underlined]] we are [[red underlined] up against at present, [[/red underlined]], nor do they realise how much better they are treated by our corporation than in many others.

[[underlined]] Aug 13. [[/underlined]] Remained in [[red underlined]] Yonkers [[/red underlined]] for [[red underlined]] a rest. [[/red underlined]], but very busy all day [[red underlined]] studying a stack of patents and new applications etc. [[/red underlined]] etc also a voluminous German report about the proceedings on the subject of [[red underlined]] Elbel's lime [[/red underlined]] patent at the German patent office. [[red underlined]] Spent most of the night studying the subject. [[/red underlined]]. How absurd that [[red underlined]] our chemists [[/red underlined]] and the men [[red underlined]] assumed [[/red underlined]] we should [[red underlined]] not be able to read German [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] or other foreign languages [[/red underlined]], so that every document in French or German has [[red underlined]] everytime to be translated [[/red underlined]] for them and even then I have seen many cases where the translation of technical matters was incorrect or misleading
My job is becoming more complicated and strenuous. - I wonder how long I can keep it up at this pace? President Hoover made an admirable address of acceptance. - came out flatly in favor of recommendation of the 18th amendment of the constitution and the abuses [[strikethrough]] of [[/strikethrough]] connecting with federal prohibition. The whole address was impressive by direct, outspoken [[strikethrough]] because [[/strikethrough]] statements and reminds one of Lincolns Gettysburgh speech. - I hope he will be selected. - it would be a calamity for the country if he were not.
