[[left margin in red]] Too many irons in the fire [[/left margin in red]]
Also writing up my views on George's proposed partnership with [[red underlined]] Harsberger [[\red underlined]] & tiles and writing various letters etc till my head swoons. A very [[red underlined]] expensive set of men [[\red underlined]] in our company and all so busy that they cannot give sufficient attention to their task. - Yet [[red underlined]] George wants to add more work and more risk. with already too many irons in the fire wants to get into a new business of which we understand little. [[\red underlined]] We have our hands full with [[red underlined]]
1/ Pantone [[red underlined]] which [[red underlined]] was to be our "white hope" [\red underlined]] and where we had to fund out so many things the [[?]] Trist was unaware of or did not know their importance. [[strikethrough]] about [[\strikethrough]] [[red underlined]] more than $200000 [[\red underlined]] spent and still experimenting until a minimum outlay of [[red underlined]] $25000 this [[\red underlined]] year and much more as soon as we enter practice.
2/ our [[red underlined]] Papermill which has swallowed up many hundred of dollars and still costing us all [[\red underlined]] the time all in hope of doing something with it.
3/ Our [[red underlined]] varnish resin [[\red underlined]] experiment where we have spent hundred of thousands of dollars and still in the red. - This month of July showing only half the sales of July 1931
4/ [[red underlined]] Johnson & Johnson [[\red underlined]] arrangement still offering us money and more experiments

[[left margin in red]] Harsberger [[\left margin in red]]
[[underlined]] Aug 16 [[\underlined]] Another meeting [[strikethrough]] of [[\strikethrough]] about [[red underlined]] Harsberger matter. Geog B. Harsberger, Rose and Sanford Brown I told reasons explained on page 94 why I felt [[strikethrough]] no [[?]] [[\strikethrough]] we should not enter into this new business. [[red underlined]] Harsberger answered all questions but not why we should add one more "iron in the fire" after we had already [[\red underlined]] too many.
[[left margin]] this occurred Aug [[underlined]] 18 [[\underlined]] [[\left margin]]
[[strikethrough]] Then George read the typewritten sheets of Sanford Brown against the proposition. Rosie abstained from giving an opinion beyond what I had said. Harsberger answered in time Sanford Browns objections. [[\strikethrough]]
George is furious and impatient to enter into the matter. - we all 3 are lukewarm and disinclined for the reasons advanced by me.
Remainder of the day studied [[red underlined]] Elbel lime patent [[\red underlined]]. Proposed to rewrite clauses of Elbel patent to exclude Novolak resins, then we would be protected by our lime patent for Novolak & 2 step process while by Elbels for one step
Also assume our lime patent with special claims for lime, baryta Shontia[[guess]], lime & magnesium as their phenolates. - insoluble phenolates?
