[[underline]] May 1. [[/underline]] Wrote many letters also on to George B in answer to his remarks about the heavy Death Taxes my Estate shall have to pay under present conditions. - I have given much thought to this situation and intend to discuss subject with him as soon as I am in New York. 
[[underline]] May 2. [[/underline]] Continuance of clearing up things preliminary to my departure, letters, letters & letters! Fortunately feel entirely well again and am not disturbed much when I live all alone here.
[[underline]] May 3. [[/underline]] Wrote shall leave here May 11, to arrive early Sat. 13 and have Sunday morning for long talk with George about all important matters now pending 
[[underline]] May 4. [[/underline]] Visited [[red underline]] Fairchild. Is still in bed [[/red underline]] has fever but was very cheerful.
[[underline]] May 5. [[/underline]] [[red underline]] General Rivers [[/red underline]] here to visit [[red underline]] El Jardin. Harris School [[/red underline]] wants to buy it and [[red underline]] borrow the $50000 [[/red underline]] thereto.
My neighbor across the road Mr. [[red underline]] Meeker [[/red underline]] came to call. Had a

a friendly chat. He dislikes very much the idea of having a girl school as a neighbor. Told him we might have worse and at least it was a respectable neighbor

[[underline]] May 6. [[/underline]] Went to visit [[red underline]] Fairchild. His condition not improved. [[/red underline]] On the contrary more fever. Dr. Jeffrey is making blood test, fears he has contracted some [[red underline]] tropical fever [[/red underline]] Telegraphed to office to fix dates for meeting in London & Berlin, and so as to avoid being hung up in London during the Banking Holidays of first week of May
[[underline]] May 7 [[/underline]] (Sunday) Letter writing. [[red underline]] Namakura [[/red underline]] came to make my photo in natural colors.
[[underline]] May 8. [[/underline]] Went for ticket to Miami. Then to Mr. Cutler for grafts of Cherrymoya and Star apples. Afternoon visited the Meekers across road. Mrs. Meeker is the daughter of man who invented modern bottle caps. - Pleasant talk, Meeker is still much against Miss Harris School locating at El Jardin
[[underline]] May 9. [[/underline]] Dr. [[red underline]] Fairchild's condition is getting worse. [[/red underline]] Pains and swelling at joints. Has been removed to Dr. Kellog's Sanitarium. Hot and sultry, 84°F + 80% to 90% humidity. Water in swimming tank is 80°F and mosquitoes are biting
[[underline]] May 10 [[/underline]] Finished my letters and started packing.

Mrs. Fairchild telephoned her husband is better, which rejoices me intensely. Temperature gone, so are pains. Am leaving to night 10 P.M for Atlantic Sea Coast train. Slightly cooler
