[[left margin in red]] Germany at her best [[/left margin in red]]
[[red underline]] nor shabbiness.[[/red underline]] A [[red underline]] happy crowd [[/red underline]] enjoying a holiday. There was a fair breeze for the sail boats and the [[red underline]] number of boats [[/red underline]] out [[red underline]] seemed to choke the lakes. [[/red underline]] Nevertheless I saw no collisions nor other interferences. We went [[red underline]] from one lake to another,[[/red underline]] passing thru some narrower waterways of which the [[strikethrough]] bo [[/strikethrough]] shores were the pretty and well kept gardens of [[strikethrough]] th [[/strikethrough]] wealthier owners. An excellent luncheon was served at moderate price excellent [[red underline]] beer and wine [[/red underline]] altho' [[red underline]] many preferred soft drinks. [[/red underline]] We were landed at Potsdam where visited "Sans Souci" the former residence of Frederick I and its well kept gardens. [[red underline]] Everywhere a quiet orderly group of visitors, [[/red underline]] most of them workmen or farmers enjoying their Sunday. Earlier the grounds then to the Neues Palast., whence the Bus was waiting to take us back to Berlin thru [[red underline]] Potsdam [[/red underline]] City which [[red underline]] was glutted by old war veterans having their annual meetings. [[/red underline]] some of them in uniforms of former days others in clumsy black frock coats white neck ties, black trousers and [[red underline]] awkward silk hats. But everything orderly [[/red underline]] and pleasant, and good behavior. Endless music bands playing military or national airs. and now and then some chorus singing. What [[red underline]] impressed me most [[/red underline]] that [[red underline]] everywhere [[/red underline]] in the streets, the country along the lakes artistic and [[red underline]] careful planning had enhanced the natural landscape [[/red underline]] without changing its character, [[red underline]] instead of murdering the landscape by reckless destruction [[/red underline]] or incoherent planning as is

[[red underline]] too often the case at home. [[/red underline]] Even the beautiful [[red underline]] white swans along [[/red underline]] the borders of the lakes were [[red underline]] not disturbed [[/red underline]] by the bathers or other holiday-makers, or pick-nickers.- [[red underline]] - This is the best impression I have had from Germany so near Berlin. [[/red underline]]
[[underline]] July 3. [[/underline]] A busy day, first to find accomodation on some [[red underline]] steamer, [[/red underline]] as I am advised everything is taken on Manhattan except inside room. So I [[red underline]] concluded [[/red underline]] on a [[red underline]] single outside [[/red underline]] cabin - without bath or shower lowest [[red underline]] winter-rate [[/red underline]] at $159 on the new steamer [[red underline]] Champlain [[/red underline]] of the French Line sailing on July 5 from Havre. Payment in Dollars, which is a great advantage with the Dollar exchange so low as compared to the Mark. Went to Am. Express to draw 200 Dollars on my letter of credit. [[red underline]]
[[left margin in red]] X [[/left margin]] Sachs [[/red underline]] tells me [[red underline]] that the money in marks he has advanced me on account should be repaid because he had no right to do so and if discovered [[/red underline]] would [[red underline]] submit him to punishment [[/red underline]] from the Government, punishment may [[red underline]] even include imprisonment [[/red underline]] - all because he is a [[red underline]] Jew.

[[/red underline]] - This must restrict considerably his usefulness as a [[red underline]] director [[/red underline]] of Bakelite Gesellschaft. So I drew 300$ more at Berlin Handelskammer Gesellschaft. [[red underline]] The Dollar is at its lowest in Germany, France and England. The English Pound also has much declined [[/red underline]] [[strikethrough]] before the [[/strikethrough]] as compared to [[red underline]] francs guilders [[/red underline]] etc of the [[red underline]] countries still on the Gold Standard. [[/red underline]] The latest [[red underline]] proclamation [[/red underline]] of [[red underline]] Franklin Roosevelt [[/red underline]] as [[red underline]] referring [[/red underline]] to submit to a standardization of Dollar
