[[note in left margin in red]] George Roll [[/note in left margin in red]]
This afternoon [[red underlined]] George Roll [[/red underlined]] came here with his car by appointment at 4.30 P.M. first time he comes on time, because I [[red underlined]] had specified 4.30 P. sharp. [[/red underlined]] We had a private talk about his problem with Nina. I talked to him in a very friendly but outspoken way, showing him how he had missed all his excellent opportunities by his lack of judgement and his shortcomings. - He [[red underlined]] admitted it all [[/red underlined]] and repelled it etc. I referred him to what happened [[red underlined]] when he was with Bakelite [[/red underlined]] until he brought about his own resignation etc. He lives now with his brother [[red underlined]] Sylvester [[/red underlined]] in Bronxville [[red underlined]] and is still looking for a position. [[/red underlined]] He says he will abide by what I say but much desires to have an opportunity to patch up with Nina. As she is entirely fed up on him, and no wonder - I only see that living together will only make matters worse. Repeated to him what I told to Nina, Celine and George that I do not want to express a decisive opinion for the moment. But I [[red underlined]] am against any hasty action as Nina wants it. [[/red underlined]] - On such important matters Nina should should not be allowed to act when she is angry or in a passion. A few weeks reflexion after calmer attitude sets in is necessary before further action. Nina evidently imagines that after she gets a divorce she will marry [[red underlined]] Foster [[/red underlined]] and "live ever happy forever"! - I believe on the contrary that such a subsequent marriage is [[red underlined]] only another experiment [[/red underlined]] which may bring about in time other [[red underlined]] disillusions etc. [[/red underlined]] - When she married Roll and fell in love with him he was in her eyes

"the greatest man in creation"! until she had lived a few years with him and found out his shortcomings. I have little doubt that the same thing may happen again. On the other hand constant quarreling between the two is equally bad. A separation has serious objectionable features, specially in view of George [[red underlined]] Rolls tendency of remaining meek when he has no other choice, but flaring up as a petty tyrant when occasions permit [[/red underlined]] it. - His "inferiority complex" makes him then take attitudes which have astounded me more than once. I talked to him like a father and friend, yet pointing out that he by his own acts and attitudes had brought him to his present situation. Gave him a glass of my best wine and we parted as friends. [[strikethrough]] I pl [[/strikethrough]] I pity the man, [[red underlined]] because he is born as such, [[/red underlined]] with very limited judgement, slow, awkward and very boresome, [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] and meddlesome whenever he finds an opportunity.

Whitaker wrote to me to obtain data as to connections of Ellis with Pollak laboratory or other persons in Europe from whom he obtained information concerning Urea and which come into play now in his Interference suit where he swore to dates of conception and reduction to practice which seem lies. Told Whitaker over phone whatever information Ripper was able to give me. [[red underlined]] Ripper thinks [[/red underlined]] Ellis got his information by examining
