[[left margin in red]] End of prohibition [[/left margin in red]]
[[underlined in red]] Roosevelt hotel [[/underlined in red]] where dinner is to held. My guests Mr & Mrs [[underlined in red]] Grenade [[/underlined in red]] and Dr & Mrs. [[underlined in red]] Ripper [[/underlined in red]] met there. The enormous dining very much crowded. Stupidity of having a noise [[strikethrough]] mus [[/strikethrough]] string orchestra play all the time, so that people had to shout to each other to be understood. - Unpleasant ordeal for me who had to converse [[strikethrough]] in shorting [[/strikethrough]] with my guests, which my cold made a difficult job. Dr. [[underlined in red]] Einstein, Langmier, [[/underlined in red]] etc. there. Met many friends. - This was [[underlined in red]] first time [[/underlined in red]] I saw [[strikethrough]] cham [[/strikethrough]] [[underlined in red]] wines publicly served since prohibition. [[/underlined in red]] Bought two bottle Pomery & Greno champagne at 7 1/2 Dollars each. Reached home with Celine, Cornelia and George at midnight.
[[underlined]] Dec 19. [[/underlined]] Feel much better, my cold seems gone. All day at office various matters. Busy day!
[[underlined]] Dec 20. [[/underlined]] 1933. This morning George suggested me at the office that [[underlined in red]] Holmgren would make an excellent aide for him if the latter could have another to attend to the [[/underlined in red]] details of his work. Am heartily in favor of it. Holmgren has won the respect and good will of everyone Reliable, intelligent, active and loves his work.
[[underlined in red]] Little Peter [[/underlined in red]] who has been ill some weeks with a cold which keeps him in bed gives us worries
Little [[underlined in red]] Freddie [[/underlined in red]] also in his bed on account of physicians orders to spare his leg was here and is [[underlined in red]] cheerful as ever. Ninette [[/underlined in red]] here for a few days

Looks healthy and spirited and playful as ever. She [[underlined in red]] looks very pretty [[/underlined in red]] and [[underlined in red]] much like Celine did [[/underlined in red]] when I first saw her in the laboratory of Prof. Swarts. I [[strikethrough]] gro [[/strikethrough]] hope Ninette will resemble her ^[[grand]] mother not only in looks but in nobility of character.
[[underlined]] Dec. 21 [[/underlined]] Annual [[strikethrough]] directors meeti [[/strikethrough]] [[underlined in red]] stockholders meeting [[/underlined in red]] to day preced by director's meeting. [[underlined in red]] Leo Karpen [[/underlined in red]] arrived before. Told him we had decided to elect him, succeeding his brother Adolf [[underlined in red]] for various reasons. [[/underlined in red]] - illness and [[underlined in red]] what has ocurred at Autopoint [[underlined in red]] company with that [[underlined in red]] self loaned loan which is not yet repaid nor has the interest been paid. [[left margin in red]] George Hasslacher's tricks [[/left margin]] At [[strikethrough]] dine [[/strikethrough]] stock meeting the two only outsides were [[underlined in red]] Hamman [[/underlined in red]] and [[underlined in red]] George Hasslacher. [[/underlined in red]] Then I read my yearly report. The meeting would have been over in 30 minutes and everything went smoothly until [[underlined in red]] George Hasslacher with his [[strikethrough]] wre [[/strikethrough]] wry smile and unctuous delivery again [[underlined in red]] repeated his yearly [[/underlined in red]] same remark that the directorate should include some outsiders (like himself!) because in that way the board would not be made up exclusively by men who are officers of the company etc etc. I have already assured on former occasion this piece of [[underlined in red]] asaninity. [[/underlined in red]] He wants to make himself important and try to become a director. He [[underlined in red]] played this same game in other companies. [[/underlined in red]] But this time I lost my patience when he said with a smirk that he would put a motion to have his remarks inserted in the minutes. I then
