[[left margin vertical in red]] Further proposal of Union Carbide [[/left margin vertical in red]]
[[underlined in red]] remind me of the bloodthirsty tactics as practiced formerly in Mexico and other Latin [[/underlined in red]] American Republics.
George reports [[underlined in red]] Davidson [[/underlined in red]] came to see him again and said that it was his desire to see our negotiations resumed. He told confidentially that his people hesitated making a proposition which might not meet our approval to the point of we feeling irritated; but that he believed a [[underlined in red]] proposition by which we retain all our preferred stock and get 160.000 shares of their stock (now at 40) in exchange for all our assets might go thru. [[/underlined in red]] This [[underlined in red]] seems quite acceptable to both George and myself. Davidson and George are to meet again at the latters house on Saturday 28 [[/underlined in red]]

[[underlined]] July 30 [[/underlined]] 1934. Had talk with [[underlined in red]] George Gibbs [[/underlined in red]] over phone suggesting [[underlined in red]] Willard Gibbs portrait for La Maison de Chemie in Paris. - He has little enthusiasm [[strikethrough]] of [[/strikethrough]] for Willard Gibbs [[/underlined in red]] but thinks that [[underlined in red]] Wolcott Gibbs [[/underlined in red]] who was a nearer relative is the man to select. I also [[underlined in red]] consulted Berolzheimer [[/underlined in red]] who reinforces me in the belief that [[underlined in red]] Robert Hare [[/underlined in red]] as one of our oldest chemists on record is the man
[[underlined in red]] Dr. David Fairchild [[/underlined in red]] visited me at our office and I took him to University Club for luncheon. [[underlined in red]] This is his first visit there. [[/underlined in red]]
[[underlined]] July 31. [[/underlined]] [[underlined in red]] David Fairchild, his wife [[/underlined in red]] and his son Graham arrived at [[underlined in red]] Snug Rock [[/underlined in red]] in their car from Coconut Grove, this afternoon They are to sleep here two nights before proceeding [[underlined in red]] to Watch Hill [[/underlined in red]] Rhode Island where they intend spending remainder of the summer.
I asked members of executive com. to sign permit to transfer one of my shares of Bakelite Common to [[underlined in red]] Holmgren. [[/underlined in red]] - They all consented [[/underlined in red]] This will enable Holmgren to buy the 40 shares of Bakelite [[/underlined in red]] Common from Mrs. [[underlined in red]]] Williams [[/underlined in red]] who desires to sell them at [[underlined in red]] 62 [[/underlined in red]] per share.
