Received letter from University of Illinois that [[red underlined]] Leyden [[/red underlined]] who applied for position in our patent department was a [[red underlined]] rather mediocre [[/red underlined]] student, contrary to the statements he made in his letter applying for a job. So advised Dodson and Nielson to this effect.
[[underlined]] Nov 27 - 28 [[/underlined]] - Rainy. At office, discussion Budget Advertising for 1935, etc.

At noon the [[red underlined]] whole family except Dicky who is in boarding school [[/red underlined]] here for the traditional Turkey Dinner. A very large one this year and well prepared. [[red underlined]] George, Nina, Cornelia, Celine Roll, Bake Roll, Ninette, Brooksie and Peter all in good health and [[/red underlined]] good appetite and cheerful spirit. Left here at 3:30 P.M.
[[red underlined]] George and myself [[/red underlined]] took occasion to talk about family [[red underlined]] finances taxes etc. Very pleasant family meeting. I feel proud of all of them. [[underlined]] Dec 1, 1934. [[/underlined]]  This evening went to monthly meeting and dinner of Century Club. Met many friends had not seen since long.
[[underlined]] Dec 2 [[/underlined]] (Sunday). Busy as usual writing and study.
[[underlined]] Dec 3. [[/underlined]] Went to Exposition of Power & machinery at Grand Central Palace. A certain Mr. Wiley came for position as literature searcher. Last position was with Barret Co. as references he gave [[red underlined]] Sutherland! [[/red underlined]] of Royal Baking fame, who now seems head of laboratory there! Also [[red underlined]] Hamlin [[/red underlined]] who is there in patent department.
[[underlined]] Dec. 4. [[/underlined]] This afternoon went to [[underlined]] Science Museum [[/underlined]] in the News Building 220 E.42d street. A very interesting exhibit. Afterward had [[strikethrough]] talk [[/strikethrough]] interesting talk with [[red underlined]] Prof. Charles Russell Richards, [[/red underlined]] who told me about his troubles with the trustees of the [[red underlined]] Towne Fund [[/red underlined]] which was intended for this Science Museum.
