[[underlined]] Jan 1. [[/underlined]] 1935. Finished packing and after checking my baggage went to [[red underline]] University Club Annual New Year lunch. [[/red underline]] Among the many friends there met [[red underline]] Allison Armour, [[/red underline]] who has decided to give up his exploration Yacht [[red underline]] "Utowana" [[/red underline]] because [[red underline]] present high taxes and reduced income [[/red underline]] compel him to do so. [[strikethrough]] An [[/strikethrough]] He told me this some days ago and I feel very sorry to hear it. A loss for science and a personal loss for me because every winter at his departure and return he came to see me with Professor [[red underline]] Thomas Barbour, [[/red underline]] the [[red underline]] Fairchilds [[/red underline]] and such explorers he had on board. Egg nog and luncheon was served. Our old Engineers table had few visitors. [[red underline]] Sprague died Hardon, Ordway and others dead. Pupin [[/red underline]] retained at his home by his [[red underline]] lame legs. Hutchinson [[/red underline]] in Coral Gables. Dr. [[red underline]] Holder, Bob Bridges, Durant and Reynders there. [[/red underline]] The two latter showed their age, (or were they tired) by kicking about service and substance of the luncheon.

Before luncheon had a long talk with Hays about financial affairs of BC my will and trust funds, etc.

Afterwards went to visit Dr. [[red underline]] Ripper [[/red underline]] at Barbizon Plaza hotel had a pleasant chat from 4 to 6 while drinking a glass of beer. His wife was visiting friends. Then went to my train [[strikethrough]] that [[/strikethrough]] [[red underline]] "Seaboard" [[/red underline]] air conditioned that left at 6:45 P.M in two sections. Many passengers for towns less Southerly and for Jacksonville. Weather crisp and cold and light frost. But no dust
At Jacksonville had to wait 2 long hours while train
