came here to discuss [[red underline]] pending problems of Bakelite, also the
offer of Cyanamid Co to join them and combine. [[/red underline]]
[[vertical note in left margin in red]] Cyanamid wants to combine [[/vertical note in left margin]]
George has carefully examined the whole situation and has come to the conclusion, same as I did independently, that [[red underline]] there is no advantage to us and every possibility of disadvantage. [[/red underline]] G. tells me that the Beetle Urea department of Cyanamid Co. [[red underline]] lost again about $100000 [[/red underline]] this year and [[red underline]] has been losing every year since they embarked on this industry [[/red underline]] [[strikethrough]] t [[/strikethrough]] which was outside of their experience. Tells me also that [[red underline]] other manufacturers of Urea products [[/red underline]] are not making any profits or are losing money. [[strikethrough]] George and Rossi has [[/strikethrough]] Cyanamid had engaged [[red underline]] Professor Fisher [[/red underline]] of Massachusetts Institute of Technology to study the economics and book keeping of their Urea department. He [[red underline]] reported the whole situation as a hopeless mess, as far as manufacturing methods and hope for profits are concerned. [[/red underline]] George and Rossi had [[red underline]] invited Whitaker [[/red underline]] to inspect our plant at Bound Brook and our urea methods, provided they let us see their installation.

[[red underline]] Reported the latter a hopeless proposition, both in methods [[/red underline]] [[strikethrough]] & [[/strikethrough]] [[red underline]] equipment, [[/red underline]] and labor costs; while the processes, [[red underline]] our men have developed [[/red underline]] during their latter years are so [[red underline]] superior in simplicity [[/red underline]] regularity and cost, that there was no comparison possible and that [[red underline]] this situation seemed obvious to the visitors of Cyanamid [[/red underline]] Co.

[[red underline]] George proposes [[/red underline]] that we take over [[strikethrough]] their [[/strikethrough]] the present Beetle department of Cyanamid and pay them a [[red underline]] small royalty for every pound of Urea products [[strikethrough]] they [[/strikethrough]] we sell. [[/red underline]] This seems sensible and fair to me. [[red underline]] George [[/red underline]] also reports on the [[strikethrough]] ga [[/strikethrough]] [[red underline]] excellent development work Bloomfield [[/red underline]] men have done contrarily to what Am. [[red underline]] Cyanamid [[/red underline]] did in their Urea department. [[red underline]] The latter simply took over directions and processes as [[strikethrough]] it [[/strikethrough]] practised in England by the Co. from which they bought the rights [[/red underline]] and instead of studying further the chemical side of the process so as to build upon it practical manufacturing methods as we did. Am [[red underline]] glad to see that George now gives credit to our research men [[/red underline]] Bender, Hofman, Mehresh etc. who under recent guidance of Peak have brought the process
