[[underline]] Oct 11. [[/underline]] Went to visit [[red underline]] Dr. Bigelow's [[/red underline]] laboratory "(Am. Canners association," then visited Dr. [[red underline]] Howe's [[/red underline]] office where had long friendly talk. - The same a member of Cosmos Club in 1912 
Met dear old [[red underline]] Dr. Munroe [[/red underline]] as Cosmos [[strikethrough]] Clt [[/strikethrough]] Club, he seems very aged and is allowed to spend only one morning a week at the Club, and was sitting alone reading in one of the rooms. He quickly recognised me and beginning to [[red underline]] talk about old events [[/red underline]] he quickly became his old self again, showing very [[red underline]] good memory [[/red underline]] of events of the past. This evening [[red underline]] Dr. Mees of Eastman [[/red underline]] Kodak gave a lecture on the progress in color photography with excellent illustrations in the full ball-room at Willard's. 
[[strikethrough]]Oct 12 [[/strikethrough]] This morning received final proof from Mr. Roney (Franklin Printing Co) of the [[red underline]] Jubilee number of Bakelite Review, [[/red underline]] made a few corrections and suggestions and sent it back same day. Has been well prepared and made interesting as to history and present of Bakelite 
[[underline]] Oct 12. [[/underline]] Went to visit [[red underline]] Parsons [[/red underline]] at his office and had a long chat together till noon time. Afternoon went to visit [[red underline]] Concannon and Delehanty [[red underline]] in the new immense Commerce building where I lost my way among all the corridors, and various stories. - Both seemed to be apprehensive as to their future and nervous about the vagaries

of the [[red underline]] New Deal. [[/red underline]] They tell me most men [[strikethrough]] feel [[/strikethrough]] in the service feel the same and wonder what will happen to them under Roosevelt & Farley. 
[[strikethrough]] Oct [[/strikethrough]][[underline]] Sunday Oct 13. [[/underline]] Went out early for a walk, before too many people were around. Impressed with beautiful old Chestnut trees along wide Avenues Visited Pan America bdg, which was closed, but its rear garden and aztec architecture and waterlily tank made up for this. Then walked along Navy and Army bdg created during the war, then former bdg [[strikethrough]] erected [[/strikethrough]] of Industrial Research erected by my friend [[red underline]] Dr. Cushman [[/red underline]] and where he showed consulting chemists how to run a consultation and research bureau. It has been purchased by the U.S. Government but stands idle. - Then all alone again visited grounds of National Research Council bdg then to the Lincoln Memorial. Very striking and allowing beautiful views in all directions. Afternoon to National Museum & Smithsonian Institution then back to the Club where met Dr. Thomas [[red underline]] Jesse Jones, Batcheller,  [[underline]] Dr. Steiger [[/underline]] [[/red underline]] of U.S. Geological Survey. F.C. Brown, formerly of Bureau of Standards, now at the head of Commercial Science Exhibits of Smithsonian etc. To bed at 10:30 P.M after a very interesting day. 
[[vertical note in left margin]] [[red underline]] Phyllosachus Bambusoides [[/red underline]] was the name of the enormous straight bamboos 20 to 70 ft high & 2" to 5" thick which I saw at the Museum. Why not plant them in Coconut Grove [[/vertical note in left margin]]
